As a result of the recent storms in California, the governor declared a state of emergency in many counties affected by the storms. The IRS and California franchise board released information surrounding filing extensions and the recent California Storms. FTB has extended filing and payment deadlines for many individuals and businesses in California. We are notifying you of this recent change so that you are aware of your options regarding the recent tax deadline updates. The Governor’s office of California just recently announced that it will conform to the IRS’s postponement of filing and payment deadlines to October 16, 2023. For taxpayers located in all counties except:

  • Lassen
  • Modoc
  • Shasta

The change applies to returns due prior to the October 16, 2023, deadline. It also applies to any estimated taxes that are due prior to October 16, as well as the March 15 and June 15 pass through entity elective tax payments. While the extension applies to payroll tax returns, it does not apply to employment and excise tax deposits.
